My details have dissapppeared! we have a request for the list of people in a company to be sorted by surname, descending. It doesn't seem like it is possible, as the person name appears as "firstname+surname" as one field. Any tips or ideas?

Have a look at the personlist definition in

Admin>Customization>Person

You should be able to add the column pers_surname to the personlist. You could then allow sorting on column.
