Uploading and Attaching Documents to a Task in Different Browsers

3 minute read time.

Sage CRM has a group of features around managing documents. The changes are experienced slightly differently depending on which browser is used.

  • Upload Multiple Documents and Create a Task
  • Attach Multiple Documents to an Existing Task

This article will compare Internet Explorer and Firefox and so I assume that you have already downloaded and installed Firefox and Internet Explorer. I also assume that you have access to a default install of the demo system loaded with the standard demo data.

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer has always been supported by Sage CRM and so this provides you with the base line behaviour with which you can then make comparisons. If you start Internet Explorer and log on to CRM as a user like Susan Maye (Mayes) you can navigate to a company screen like 'Eurolandia'.

Once we have done that we can select the Documents Tab from the tab menu and then click on the "Add File" button. This will presented you with the New Document screen. If you click on the 'Browse…' button next to the File field you can now start to upload a document in the 'Choose File to Upload' dialog.

In Internet Explorer you can only select one file. To upload a file navigate to the My Documents folder and select a file and click open. Then complete the fields on the screen.

We can now associate the document with a Task. To do this make sure that the "Create Communication and save merged document" check box is ticked. Once that is done click the "Save" button to upload document.

You should be presented with a list of documents.

Note: The System Administrator can control the size of Files allowed to be uploaded. If you attempt to upload a file that is too big then you may get an error message like this: "The file is too big. The maximum size of attachment for your profile is 20480 KB". If this happens select a smaller file and repeat the upload.

To view the document you have just uploaded click on the Communications tab for the Company and filter to find the Completed Tasks. Click on the Task that you just created. The Task summary screen should be displayed. Click on the Attachments tab. It will list the Attachment associated with the Task.

To view the Document click on the Paper Clip icon in the list and the document should load and display.

You can now close the document and view the list of documents associated with the Task. Click on the "Add File" button.

Note: On this New Document screen you do not have the checkbox "Create Communication and save merged document".

This screen allows you to add another file to the existing Task. Select a file and upload this to the Task. The file you have just uploaded will be displayed along with the list of all Attachments.

Firefox

If you now start up Firefox and like before logon as Susan Maye and load up the Summary screen for the company 'Eurolandia' you will find the upload experience is different

Select the Documents Tab from the tab menu and click on the "Add File" button as before. You should be presented with the New Document screen. When you click on the 'Browse…' button next to the File field you can now start to upload multiple documents in the 'Choose File to Upload' dialog.

Note: In Firefox you can select several files!

Navigate to the My Documents folder and 3 files and then click Open. The Files to be attached will then be listed at the bottom of the Screen.

Just like before you can complete the fields on the screen and then to associate the document with a Task, make sure that the "Create Communication and save merged document" check box is ticked. Once you click the "Save" button the document will be uploaded.

You should be presented with a list of documents. Click on the Communications tab for the Company and filter to find completed Tasks as before. Click on the Task that you just created and the Task summary screen should be displayed. The click on the Attachments tab. It will list the Attachment associated with the Task.

To view a Document click on the Paper Clip icon in the list and the document should load and display. Close the document and view the list of documents associated with the Task.

Click on the "Add File" button. Select 2 files that you want to upload and click the Open button. Review the files and click the Save button.

The files you have just uploaded will be displayed along with the list of all Attachments.
