Join me at Schloss Schwanberg for the Wedding of the Year! A Case Study involving Self Service and new Entities.

1 minute read time.

As the an exercise for a training course we have created a Case Study called "Schloss Schwanberg". This describes a wedding venue business that owns a small Castle that provides a service to couples planning a wedding. The castle, its chapel, great hall and grounds could be hired for their big day.

Schloss Schwanberg is a small castle that stands on the slope of the Glaskopf Mountain within the Hochtaunuskreis region of Hesse. The castle dates from the 13th century but after many alterations through the centuries it fell into disrepair during the 19th century.

The case study provided a typical scenario that might be faced by a small business. They had been using a combination of paper based systems, spreadsheets and email to keep track of bookings. But this had started to prove difficult to manage and keep track of changes made to arrangements by the customers. Their customers had also expressed frustration that details of the agreed arrangements and the charges to be incurred are not transparent.

The case study requires a student to build an interface from the corporate website that allows an initial enquiry to be made. A workflow causes the lead to be promoted to an opportunity. The booking can then be managed by the customer from the corporate website to control the details of the booking right down to the different packages chosen for flowers, music and menus at the reception. A new custom entity was added to allow the couple to build their guest list and to allocate guests to tables.

There is a series of articles that works through in detail the completion of this case study. Members of the Developer Program are very welcome to download the case study which is available in both English and German.
