Cookies in Sage CRM

1 minute read time.
Cookies are 100% optional in the default install of Sage CRM.
Assuming you are using Internet Explorer you can find the cookies under
C:\Documents and Settings\[windows user]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
The cookie created will be listed as
  • Name: eware.dll
  • Internet Address: Cookie:user.name@servername/installname/eware.dll
Cookies are used by Sage CRM to remember the user name of the last person to logon to Sage CRM from the current client machine. But it is only the user name and not the password. In some applications (see below) cookies can be used to maintain the session and state information but Sage CRM does this by passing the Session and State information that it needs in the QueryString part of the URL.
I use a little utility IECookiesView (http://www.nirsoft.net) to view the contents of the cookies on my machine.

Cookies are used in the Self Service application to maintain session. The fact that a visitor has been authenticated is stored in the cookie and checked each time a page is requested. The logout feature in Self Service destroys the cookie.

Note:

Cookies are used by the Spell Checker within Sage CRM to allow new words to be 'learnt' on a users machine. You can also read more about cookies as they work in the Spell Checking in Sage CRM 6.2
