Hi Mark,

If you are migrating your data over to Sage Business Cloud Payroll and you are entering in opening balances, this box is solely for PAYE the employee paid from the start of the tax year.

If your employees haven't paid any PAYE, then you can enter in zero in the box.

Having watched the video it seems to suggest that the data needs to be entered for everyone irrespective of whether they have paid tax, as long as they have paid NI. This seems to contradict your answer.

Can you advise as to which is correct?

You would definitely need to fill in this section if the employees were paid within the current tax year.

In this section though, it will ask for the PAYE/Tax paid this employment, if the employees haven't paid any, then you can enter in zero.

Apologies that I seem to have a raft of questions that seem silly, but i have some terminology cross over in the documents I am using.

When I am asked for taxable pay this year, the P11 I have shows this as a -ve figure because the person earns less than their personal allowance.

I am guessing when Sage is asking me for taxable pay it refers to gross earnings? and the same for NI figures?

That is correct Mark. This is the amount before any Tax or NI is deducted. Another way of saying it is that it is the amount of pay the employee receives that is liable for PAYE & NI.

If I submit and find I have somethign wrong or omitted anything can I change it later?

Once you haven't run a Pay Run, you can always amend your opening balances.

If you have any you find something was entered incorrectly, you just need to call our support team and they will be able to change it on your behalf.
