MTD Vat Return Authority

SUGGESTED

Why do I have to grant authority for sage to interact with HMRC every time I submit a Vat return. According to the software the authority last for 18 months?

    Hi,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

Currently when using Sage 50 you’ll need to re-enter your HMRC details each time you do your VAT Return. This is due to us not storing the token passed back from HMRC.

if you’re an accountant using Sage 50 Client Manager we do store the token and you’ll only be asked for the login details every 18 months. You need to be on v25.1 or above for this feature. We currently aren’t able to extend this functionality out to the other variants of Sage 50.

Any updated news on when this will be sorted?

Why should we be expected to enter our details everytime when other software providers can authenticate correctly?

There are no current plans to implement this into Sage 50 Accounts Essential, Standard or Professional.

The option to retain your login details is only available for Sage 50 Client Manager.

Can I ask a simple question then, why?

Other much less expensive pieces of software handle this no problem but Sage does not want to!

I find this unacceptable and for my mind the program is simply not compliant with MTD and I have no idea why HMRC would allow Sage to state that it is.

With profit to September '21 if £87million it is not like the resources are not there to get the program properly MTD compliant.

Next question then is how to we get Sage 50 Client Manager at no cost and have this working with Sage "Professional"?

Thank you for your feedback Patrick, that's certainly something you can put forward on the ideas board > for future software development.

The definition of compliant software from HMRC is as follows:

Functional compatible software means a software program, or set of software programs, products or applications (apps) that can:

    • record and store digital records
    • provide HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) with information and VAT returns from the data held in those digital records
    • receive information from HMRC

Sage 50 Accounts meets those requirements and will always change to stay up to date with compliance.

The client manager variant would require you (as an accountant practice) to register as an agent with HMRC in order to use it.

This then lets you submit on behalf of your clients. You’d also need to register as an accountant with Sage.

I can appreciative why the addition of storing details would be useful so would recommend logging it as an idea for consideration.

    Kind regards,

    Ian

    Thanks for the feedback.

OK I agree Sage may be "compliant" in the aspect as shown.

Quickbooks stores the authentication so I'd have thought that given the price difference between that software and Sage that Sage would be able to do the same!

It is extremely annoying when you go through the loop then don't submit the return if you go to do the same thing 2 minutes later you have to authenticate again.

Run a few companies with monthly returns and this all gets very annoying.

The whole idea is that MTD should be simple, for me it is not as I need lots of login details noted down to keep entering these over and over again even though Sage pops up windows saying it will store these!
