MAKING TAX DIGITAL SAGE EURO BASE CURRENCY

Hello everybody,

I was hoping to get some clarity on SAGE's MTD functionality. I am on subscription software so am told its MTD compliant, however I run SAGE on EUR base currency.

I have asked SAGE in the past about this and was told that the current SAGE software functionality would currently submit my MTD VAT Returns EUR figures as if they were GBP which would be submitting incorrect data.

I was then told that there is a way to manually input the totals of each VAT box just before submission allowing me to effectively submit the correct GBP equivalent to my VAT Returns, this is great but defies the whole point of MTD does it not? However even if this was doable I would then need to run some correction journals and run my VAT return again on SAGE with the correct EUR figures... all very confusing.

Would it not be simple enough to add a functionality at the MTD VAT Return Submission software to detect if its being run on a base currency other than GBP and automatically convert the figures to GBP before submitting them? One would think this to be pretty standard functionality for the developers of a multi currency accounting software.

Has anybody else encountered this issue? Can anybody give some further clarification if this functionality is has been added to the latest version or if it will be added in time for the MTD dead line?

Thank you very much to all that may be able to shed some light on this.

    Hi Martin,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

You can log this as a suggestion to improve our Sage 50cloud Accounts software on our Ideas Board.

To log your idea select Submit an idea and then complete the form.

Once logged, we’ll be able to use your idea and help us to shape your Sage software. Other customers will also be able to vote on your idea. However, we will likely need to work with HMRC if this is to be put in place, so it may take some time to implement.

    Regards,

    Hello Paul,

and thank you for your reply. My situation is not a suggestion for a new idea but a flag on a major flaw on SAGE's MTD compliance for all users that run SAGE on any base currency that is not GBP.

I have been calling in to SAGE technical service every month for the last 4 months or so, last call made 28/01/19 and each time I am told that this is a known flaw in the software but to sit tight as by 01/04/19 my SAGE software will allow me to be 100% MTD compliant and that this issue will be solved in conjunction with your ongoing work with HMRC.

Now you are saying that this issue is new to SAGE and that making SAGE MTD compliant for non GBP base currency users is only an IDEA? and for that IDEA to be considered I should post it on this forum?

Me and users in my situation are like sitting ducks waiting to be shot by HMRC come the 01/04/19 and on one side you are telling us that no action is necessary on our part and that all will be well on 01/04/19 and on the other you are suggesting I pop my idea in to a suggestion box?

Could you be so kind as to escalate this matter in order to give a definite answer on what's going on please?

Also in the mean while could you advise what the current work around is up until your software is updated (if ever) to incorporate this new functionality? I was given some indication by technical support over the telephone but would it not be worthy, at the very least, of some kind of written guidance for us?

    Please advise
