Allow 'Journal Entry' to be entered for multiple dates in one screen

Is it possible to add a date column in the body section of the Journal Entry window that allows you to select the date of the journal as opposed to having the ability to only enter one date?

  • A journal is an accounting entry and represents a(n exceptional) manual way to input the two (or more) halves of a single transaction which by nature must be on a single date - having to enter the date (and reference) each time is more work.

    I'm curious as to why this should be requested.

    1. If you allow for different dates in different lines of a single journal you will be creating an unbalanced set of accounts between the first and last dates of the journal if they are different;
    2. if you want to be able to enter more than one journal at a time (vaguely useful with the Year End journals we've just done) it could make life easier, BUT this can lead to errors whereby you could get, say, two journals with errors (possibly on different dates) that cancel each other out.

    Either way it can lead to unbalanced accounts - the whole point of double entry bookkeeping (every debit must have a matching credit) being to keep the books balanced and if any imbalance exists it shows an error has occurred.
