Subscrition

SUGGESTED

Just wanted to post this to show my disappointment with the whole MTD scenario. (and the Sage pricing!)

I had a copy of Sage 2013 which was perfect for myself to run my business. Its just me in the business and I have to do everything including the accounts side, which is a chore.

Anyway, along comes MTD so my Sage 2013 isn't "MTD compatible" so I just want to upgrade to a version that is!

Much to my disgust, you can no longer buy Sage 50 as a one off so that I could use for the next 5 years without any further cost as it is now a subscription service.

So now I am £20 / month worse off just for the sake of MTD!

Oh well, lets do some invoicing...

Great!, the option to duplicate my invoices is not in my £20 / Month version, I need to get the next version up, which is £60 / month!

I feel conned, how will I feed my children now!

right, that's go that off my chest. Enjoy the rest of your day!

no its not, i've just upgraded and there's still no duplicate option !

    Hi.

    Thanks for using Sage City.

At Sage we’re committed to the transition and development of our subscription based products (Sage 50cloud) to make sure customers using our product are always up to date with the latest legislation changes and features. We’re no longer developing our perpetual product.

In regards to the duplicate option, go to tools > activation > refresh licence then check again. If you still can't see it, you may need to enter your new registration details in tools > activation > upgrade program. You will need to do this on all computers running Sage. To find your latest registration details, follow the steps in this guide: 34761

I had to phone support who got me to rename some folders in the programdata area before it would work. I'd followed the other instructions previously.

As for the subscription side of things, are you saying that you are expecting HMRC to change the requirements of MTD on at least an annual basis?

When I purchase a piece of software, I expect it to work for years to come (possibly a few patches where necessary), but I don't expect to be using the latest version of a piece of software all the time, i'm happy for it to be out of date for several years as it's likely any changes would not be of any interest to me (especially when the changes involve reduced functionality!)

Another example is Microsoft Office. Instead of subscribing to Office 365, I purchased Office 2016 H&B. It does everything I want and it will last me until my PC dies in several years time. It cost me around £200 and i'll expect my PC to run for 5 years or more, so £40 / year. If I get Office 365, it would cost me around £100 a year !

Seems Sage have followed in Microsoft Footsteps, with the exception that at least you can still buy a "Perpetual Product" from Microsoft!!

    Hi.

Like many software companies, we are committed to the ongoing development of our latest software. This means that we invest time in developing solutions which add great value to our customers rather than spending time updating older versions.

If you're on subscription, you receive access to all of our latest updates. As well as benefiting from Sage 50cloud software features, these updates also ensure that you’re using up to date legislation, e.g. the ability to submit your VAT return using the new MTD portal, etc.

    Regards,
