Error when submitting VAT return

I am having problems submitting my first VAT return online via Sage 50.

I have registered with HMRC & received the confirmation email to say I am now able to do this.

I get the following error....

0 SgESub.dll SubmitRequest Unable to send request. Cannot open internet connection. 12007

I have checked everything in this article re firewall/proxy server.

https://ask.sage.co.uk/scripts/ask.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=27321

The progress window looks as if  something is happening. It says establishing connection, loading data, submission complete. Then I get the error.

Help please!

    Hi Brian.

    Thanks for using Sage City.

I think this may be something our telephone support team may need to investigate further via remote support.

I recommend you right click the Sage icon > choose 'Run as administrator' and log in again > retry the return.

If it's possible, can you also try the submission whilst connected to a different internet connection in case it's something linked to that.

If it still doesn't submit, give us a call.

    Regards,

Thanks Sean, tried the right click run as admin. Still does the same thing. I only have 1 internet connection!

I'm actually in Australia, I tried calling yesterday but was on hold for 30 mins before I gave up. I signed up to the monthly plan recently. I made the sales people aware of my location. They told me it wouldn't be a problem.

Is there a time of day when the phone lines are less busy?

    Hi Brian.

Depending on level of Sage Cover, we're open Monday - Friday, 8am - 8pm. The quieter times vary but usually before 9am or after 6pm are better for access.

We do also have webchat support Monday - Friday, 9am - 8pm, which is usually a quicker response. To access webchat, see article 29878.

    Regards,

Web chat is not proving fruitful. They are suggesting things I have tried already. I cannot call an 0845 number from here so apparently must call 9 to 5.

Is this an MTD VAT return?  What you describe (establishing connection, loading data) sounds more like the old pre-MTD method. The new system takes you to a message that starts off talking about MTD, then an HMRC screen telling you to authorise Sage to interact with HMRC.

If you are on MTD, go to Settings/Company Preferences/VAT and check that the Enable MTD box is ticked. Only do this if you are sure you are registered as it can't be undone.
