Make a new PC the main PC in Version 27

SUGGESTED

The main PC has crashed and the drive is broken. I have a new PC connected to the dataset and is online. How can I make this new PC the main primary PC please?

    Hi James,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

You would need to take a full backup on the remote site. Once you've done this you'll need to remove Sage Drive / Remote Data Access from the remote and then restore the backup and re-upload the data again.

You can follow this guide >> Remove a company from Remote Data Access (formerly Sage Drive) and upload your data again

I thank you for your reply, I disconnected as the remote site, and I created a new company using the restore from the local back up. But the data has not been uploaded to sage drive as the main PC. Should I have disconnected for all users or just this remote site. It gives two options. I cannot see on the instructions how to upload the data . Your help is appreciated.

The article although titled remove and upload again, doesnt seem to refer anywhere to the upload element, that I can see. Please advise.

    Hi James,

On the article, you need to select the version you're on and then the read more link (the instructions are specific per-version). Towards then end it then tells you how to re-upload.

    v27 and above

To remove a Remote Data Access company on Sage Accounts v27 and above. Read more >

    v26 and above

To remove a Sage Drive company on Sage Accounts v26. Read more >

    v23 to v25

To remove a Sage Drive company on Sage Accounts v23 to v25. Read more >

Note if you're using v26 or below go to www.sage.co.uk/mc and delete the company from the management centre. If you're using v27.0 or above you'll be asked to overwrite the company when you upload the data.

    Hope this helps,

Followed this article to the bottom of V27, then clicked "read more". Ive uploaded the new data and given access to users. But the other computers are still connected to the old data. How do I remove the old data? I thought by disconnecting and restoring the old data would go and no access for other users would be possible. Do they also have to disconnect and reattach to the new data. What happens to the old data held on the Sage server?

I now cannot delete the default company from another laptop, nor can I edit the user to give access as the email address is already associated with the old company data. I'll call support in the morning.

    Hi James,

With version v27 when you re-uploaded you should have been given the option to override the existing company.  (See below)

If you didn't get this (or pressed no) (you may of also not got this if you're uploading the data with a different email address to the orginal or using a new serial number) it'll mean you have two companies on Remote Data Access with multiple computers connected. You could go to those other machines and disconnect them manually and reconnect them or if you call support they can delete the first company for you which will disconnect those machines (you'll still need to reconnect them).

As I said at the top, I cannot delete the main computer as its broken but still shows as online. It does use the same email address. Appreciate your help, but this has become quite complicated and I think I would be better served by a remote support from Sage at this time.

That message would appear on whatever pc you re-upload from to cater for when the MAIN site goes down. Hope the support team can help, let me know if you need more help. You can see what options are available for support here >> www.sage.co.uk/help
