Sage constantly downloading 252MB .tmp files to C:\ProgramData\Sage\Shared\AutoUpdates

Good Afternoon,

I'm having an issue with windows using up all of my bandwidth via the background intelligent transfer service.

At first I thought it was windows updates, but after having the issue all day (on a decent connection) and then noticing I had virtually run out of disk space when I had over 150GB free yesterday, I did some more digging.

Eventually, I tracked down the high disk usage to a 136GB folder here: C:\ProgramData\Sage\Shared\AutoUpdates\v2\sage.uk.sbd.accounts.line5027.0.469.0en-gb\Downloading

Looking at the timestamps, there are doxens if not hundreds of 252MB .tmp files in this folder, all created today (with at varying points in December).

I logged into Sage and it said my data was out of sync, so closed it and repaired. Then I could log in and it stated my version differed to the main site and forced me to update. Fine - but because the BITS service is using up all my bandwidth to download these files, Sage now doesn't have any bandwidth to download the update. It's been stuck on updating for over an hour now.

Does anybody know how to get the BITS service or Sage to stop downloading the .tmp files so I can actually update sage in the hopes that it corrects the issue.

Or does anybody know if the issue is something other than a difference in versions between the main site and this remote device?

Kind Regards,

Jason

    Hi Jason,

What version of Sage are you using? It sounds like 27.0?

You can download 27.1 from www.sage.co.uk/au

The tmp file will be 27.1 download file however it’s not downloading in full for some reason and rather than converting to an .exe it’s leaving the tmp file behind and trying to download it again.

Installing 27.1 will fix this. You can delete all the tmp files that have downloaded.

    Hi Ian,

No it was v27.1 I had. I reinstalled and that seemed to work for a bit, but today I've had the exact same issue again. I have completely run out of disk space and checking the same folder in programdata\sage - it was well over 200GB with hundreds of tmp files. I didn't notice windows constantly downloading anything this time however. But why is sage not deleting the old temp files?

    It's maddening.

    Hi Jason,

The machine that’s downloading all these files, is that the server machine? And has that had v27.1 installed?

The download isn’t completing so is just repeatedly downloading the .eve (we download this a Tmp file and convert it to an exe)

In theory when all machines are updated to v27.1 including the sever it should stop looking for the v27.1 download.

I’m interested in collecting a couple of files off your machine to help us investigate the problem. If you’re interested drop me and email and we can organise a call when you’re available. (Expect it to take like 5-10 mins)
