Can I host Sage 50 accounts data on windows server 2019 essentials?

SUGGESTED

Hello,

My company recently bought a server running windows server 2019 essentials. Can sage data service run on this OS? I would like to host my data on this server. Alternatively Could I run a virtual machine with Windows 10 on the server to host the sage data service?

Thanks

Nicky

    Hi Nicky,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

Windows Server 2019 Essentials isn't supported unfortunately. The following guide will give you the system requirements for Sage: System Requirements

We don't support virtual desktop setup either. You can still attempt to install Sage on these setups but if they don't run as expected, there won't be much we can do.

I hope this gives you what you need.

Windows Server Essentials may not be officially supported, but it is possible to install Sage 50cloud accounts on the server and host the data there. If you try to use the Sage installer, you may get a message saying that the OS is not supported, but you can bypass this by extracting the individual install modules from the exe by using 7zip, and then manually installing the various components. This works just fine on Server 2012 Essentials. The problem you will have is that Sage support will not help you if you run in to problems as it is an unsupported environment. But it works fine anyway, and is much simpler than using VM's - that are also unsupported!

I would also suggest doing a full install of the program on the server, not just the data service, as then you can use the scheduled backup and check data module, and also the data maintenance and recovery tools if required. And run the program as manager to carry out critical procedures such as year end on the server, which will minimise network issues and maximise speed.
