We'll firstly need to find out which budgeting method you're using in order to find which report will be best. If you go to settings > company preferences > budgeting tab. Tell me the method and type please.

For the second part of your query, the best report to view transactions departmentally would be the audit trail summary report. To run this click on transactions down the left > click the audit trail report button from the top > select summary > preview. In the criteria you can then set your department and other selections.

Nominal Code

I thought that was the best way to load a detailed budget by department.

Hi Mike. 

If you go to nominal codes > click reports > select nominal budgets > take a look at the Profit and Loss (Actual, Budget & Prior Year) report.

Doesn't provide the detail by department (I think it is a whole company report).

But it is what I need should it be able to be run on a departmental level.

Hi Mike, did you manage to run actuals by department following the exchange of messages above?  As you stated in your message, that report is at company level not dept?  I can't find a P&L report by department (except in relation to budgets and not actuals,,,).

If you go first to Departments, then Reports, you can run a departmental profit and loss report from there.
