Microsoft Power BI and Sage 50

Has anyone connected Sage 50 UK to Microsoft Power BI for reporting? and if so how? as that is something I would really like to do. I wish that Sage would build a Content pack for Power BI so it was a native integration and I don't have to go down a 3rd party route.

  • Hi Benj,

Thanks for your comments, this is a really good shout. I've added this to our Sage 50 wish list for you.

In Sage 200, there's a module available called Business Intelligence. There's also Excel Reporting available. Sage 200 may be a good option for you?

If you would like a demo of Sage 200 and how Business Intelligence could help you, feel free to drop me an email and I can get this arranged for you.

My email address is [email protected]

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for the response but I'm not interested in going down the route of Sage 200, I have already invested heavily in my current ERP which links into Sage 50 and so I'm not keen on moving to Sage 200 currently. Since I also use Office 365 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM it makes sense for me to use Power BI as I have other services which link into Power BI such as Mailchimp and Google Analytics as well as my current ERP. The only missing link currently is Sage 50 and I have seen a couple of 3rd party tools for integrating the two but was hoping for a native integration.

Also having said all that I'm guessing that the module in Sage 200 for BI does not integrate with the above named services so then I would have to have two separate BI tools which seems excessive and expensive.

I want the ability to choose to use the tools and services I want and mix them as I want to and not have to have separate data silos as that doesn't make any business sense for me.

    Thanks

    Benj
  • Hi Benj,

No problem. I've added this to our Sage 50 wish list for you.

Hopefully we can introduce this in a future release.

    Thanks,

    Brian
  • Benji, could I ask what 3rd party tools have you found? I am also wanting to do this, link Sage 50 to Power BI.

    Thanks in advance,

    Clive
  • Well there are a few but one is still in beta testing and another doesn't seem to support automatic refreshing. So the solution I'm trying to work with is to use Microsoft Access as a intermediary with Sage exporting out via ODBC and into Access that way but I have hit on a snag as I have been using 64bit Power BI and just upgraded MS Office to 64bit to match and didn't realise that Sage doesn't support 64 bit MS Office applications. So I guess to get it to work I will have to downgrade everything to 32 bit. You could swap out Access with Excel and I think you can get the same result just about but I felt it would be easier to have it in Access but I could be wrong.
  • Benji,

Thanks. I don't currently have Access and am trying to get round using Excel because it can't cope with the volume of data I'm exporting. I have found this 3rd party ODBC driver but haven't tried it out yet. It appears to support automatic refreshing.

Let me know if you come across anything else that works.

  • Hi Clive,

I realise this is an old thread however I was wondering if you had decided to go with the cdata driver and if it was any good at all?
