Increase VAT codes

Hi,

Would it be possible to increase the number of VAT codes available. I understand currently that you can have up to T99 available but it is not possible to have 3 digits i.e. 100-999. For those with complex VAT situations this would be extremely useful and could also open Sage up to used by larger sized companies who have more complicated VAT demands.

  • Many thanks for adding this idea to Sage City.  Please vote and comment if you would find this feature useful.

  • I think you may come unstuck with Sage 200 doing tax for other countries as you need to consider the different tax treatments as well as the necessary codes for those countries. Remember Sage 200 is a UK and Eire product only when it comes to tax legislation.

  • Hi Chris, I think our situations are a bit different. The reason I require so many VAT codes is because we are registered for VAT in several countries across Europe and the rest of the world. In order to have codes specific to each jurisdiction we require at least 4 codes per country, i.e. VATable sale, purchase, non-VATable sales and purchases. I appreciate Sage is meant as a function to support HMRC but it has the ability to work in this way perfectly fine if only there were more T codes available.

  • Beth, what scenario are you thinking of that needs that number of VAT codes? We have a scenario where BOM items are made up of components where the VAT rate for the finished item varies dramatically. We ended up having to customise BOM and SOP along with the Tax Engine in Sage 200 to allow for the BOM finished item to carry the vat rate rather than using a standard rate. We still had to assign a specific vat rate for the purpose but it provided a workaround. According to the HMRC, this process of VAT calculation is allowed for sales but Sage 200 doesn't support it out of the box. Ideally, I would want Sage 200 to be able to have a number of variable tax rates that can be assigned from other objects, not just BOM items anything that requires a variable rate.
