Updating Product Codes

Why can't you update product codes - across the board.

1.They are linked to a number in sql.

2. Smith Cooper wrote an program to fix this but it is not working on the new version.

You may ask why?

a.Typos

b. Product name change

c. is Sales Ledger- company name change.

So, why not?

Expected timeline for fix - never - we are working on pre 2010 design here.

Can I confirm whether this is a Sage CRM question or a question about an accounting product?

This is a Sage 200 question.  You are right.  I clicked on Sage 200 and was added to this group.  I will post elsewhere.  As a note, i do not want to be here anyway.  I am not surprised.

  • This has been asked before: https://www.sagecity.com/gb/sage-200cloud-uk/i/sage-200cloud-uk-ideas/option-to-change-product-code, so consider voting for that idea.

Changing stock codes is not that straightforward - the stock code (not ItemID) appears in at least 24 tables in Sage 200 Commercials (and that's not including Manufacturing). And of course, many (most?) Sage 200 installations will link with other systems (eg. websites) using the codes - so you need to manage any changes carefully.

But there are utilities from various developers to do it.  Why not check with Smith Cooper if they have a newer version?

Dear Geoff,  Thank you for pointing to the other thread.  In my defense, I do not want to be here but got told the be here by Sage.  I do not do forums.  However, being a programmer, I think you are not quite right.  It is simple for the software to update 24 tables.   I am sure there is a sql script to do it.  The code also relates to a Number in SQL so if Sage used the number - as a relational database could - it only needs to appear a few times.  As for other systems, we can edit the codes in these.  Sage 200 is the only issue.  I suppose, i would ask: Can you make the change in Sage 50?  Why not let us decide?  The benefits outweigh the negatives.  We can tidy up bad codes, change codes when a product name changes.  I have a product which we have changed the name of completely but the code is still for the old product.  Just saying.

Smith Cooper are looking to sort this for me.
