Getting an SQL query into the report designer

Question

Hi, 
 Is there a way to write a query in SQL and then use that within Sage report designer? The reason I ask is you might have some functions or pivots which you can use within SQL to get the data formatted in a way to then just bring it across to the report designer and lay it our accordingly?

The only way you can do that is to create a new data source (when you open Rep Des, you have a few buttons in the top left, one is Data sources.) 
 You can use this with an SQL data provider. If you open it and press F1 it'll take you into the online help as its a good 7 years since i looked at it.
