If you're using Sage200...just reopen the periods.  Its not a "Hard" month end closure, you can reopen the period (it doesnt lock it off.)

Thank you for responding, I have been on holiday hence no update, My situation was / is a little more complicated than my original query.

We have changed our year end, bringing it forward so that we have just finished a 9 month period as of end July 2019. We have 9 different sage companies, but in 3 of them, before I closed period 9 I did not delete period 10. This meant that all the deferred nominal postings went into period 10. This meant that I could not delete period 10 to perform year end. Since my original query, I have attempted a work around which involved 'deleting' all the period 10 nominal transactions. (I kept a record of them so that I could post them again in the new year). However, this appears to have left 'traces' of activity in period 10 so I could still not delete it (according to my sage support team).

As a work around, in 2 of the companies, I have been able to change the period so that it starts and ends on 1/8/19. I've been able to perform year end and my numbers are all correct as they should be.

But in the last company that I need to sort out, it will not let me change the end date of p10. I get the error message: "You cannot change the accounting period date as one of more source modules marked as 'open' have nominal account balances." I'm  baffled as to what the error message is referring to.

I have been involving our outsourced sage support team, but together we can't figure out the error message.  In the maintain accounting periods module, p9 is marked as open, and p10 is marked as future.  I have run nominal reports and there are NO transactions in p10. SAGE help suggests it should be possible to change the date in a future period, but i can't.

    Any help much appreciated.

Ah ok i see what you mean now Lorraine. I would ask your Business partner to run a SQL trace when they are trying to change the period.  This will help them find what transaction its getting caught on.  Another thing to try is to close all the other p9's that are still open (so there are only Closed and Future periods) and see what it does then.  The closed periods can be reopened, though if you wanted to do that in a test company, or get your Partner to do it, then let them know.

Maybe a silly question, are you using Sage200 with FInancials and Commercials?  Or Financials only/Financials and Project Accounting?  As some period end columns might not show.

Also if you're using Sicon fixed assets, it adds another column in there for fixed assets, that may not show if you havent got the rights to see it.

Just some ideas but hopefully one of the above will help.
