Sage 200c Professional upgrade

SUGGESTED

Currently on sage 200c Professional, now been told by the sage partner that this is coming to end of support January 2023, which means we have to upgrade to Sage 200 2022 R2. We are under support contract etc with the sage partner, but they have quoted us in the thousands to upgrade!!

Has anyone else come across this or had same problem?

When we do an upgrade for a customer its a two step process,

    1.  create a test instance to do testing on the upgrade, so that you can see any hiccups/issues that may arise, test new features etc before taking down the live installation (this is a requirement from Sage now)

2,  after successful testing upgrade the live site, either insitu or on the new test system.

you may also need new infrastructure, SQL and windows server have all got out of support and end of life versions, these may need upgrading, which may need new hardware.

You may also have bespoke/3rd party software that requires upgrading or at least testing.

As a Sage Business Partner we have to follow these processes as laid out by Sage, to continue receiving support from them for our customers.

All of this requires time from the Business partner, that is generally not covered under the umbrella of Support.

We also follow a similar process to Toby. We always create an install on a clean server & a test upgrade, then train users on new features. Following that users carry out testing of not only the new version of 200 but also any associated customisations including report & layout modifications. If any issues arise we correct these & the business suffers no downtime or disruption & thus lost income. The last stage is the live upgrade where they switch to the new version which is always smooth as the user has tested everything on the server prior to the upgrade.

I have seem some sites upgrade by simply upgrading the live running system & then suffer days of downtime because of some unexpected issue where they do not follow a testing step. Typically this is often where support has been dropped on older version of office, operating systems or items that integrate or customisation the user has forgotten about as it's so integral. Whilst a business partner would help, the disruption involved which could have been avoided in the meantime isn't something most people would choose.

    Hi Salomina,

As both Toby and Ian have mentioned, upgrading Sage 200 isn't necessarily a quick and straight forward process. We would always suggest that sufficient testing for an upgrade be performed prior to this being done live to ensure that the upgrade process on your live environment is as smooth as possible. As some partners may also offer training etc. it's at our partners discretion for the costs associated with this.

    Kind Regards,
    Andrew
