Inventory Count Import

SUGGESTED

Can someone please explain the steps to create a file we can import?

When I go to physical inventory count there is a button that lets you import a .txt file.  We have our inventory count sheets and have typed them all into excel. Is there a certain format this all has to be in?

I cannot find a tutorial or anything in the help or online.

Thanks

    Hello JenF,

The layout for import inventory count via Physical Inventory must be a text-only comma-delimited file with the layout as quantity, part number, part number.

For example, if my I have a item with part number CD-204 and I want to import a quantity count of 100, it would be as followed :

    100,CD-204,CD-204

Thank you.  One more question - when we post a count and the system does an inventory adjustment it is automatically posting the balances to inventory variance.

We need to post the amounts to the correct cost of goods sold accounts...and with 7000 inventory items you can see how it would be tedious to adjust them all individually.   We thought that the system would pull the COGS account that the particular inventory item is assigned to under their associated sales department, that would make sense!

    How can this be done?

The journal entry posted when the adjustment is made, one side of the JE will affect the inventory asset account (as setup in Sales Department) and the other side to balance it out will be inventory variance.

I don't know how many different COGS accounts you have, but with the spreadsheet you have, there may be a possible way to calculate the totals, and have it break down for you.

At least then you would be able to separate the COGS there and just make an entry.
