RE: Trade-ins

Good morning,

We have been using Sage Business Vision for many years and we are currently thinking we may have been doing something wrong all along.

We are a car dealership, along with a recreational dealership. When we sell a new vehicle, and take a trade-in, when we process the sale on BV as per the following:

The new unit is entered with a cost, retail, and add the quantity to inventory. We use an "A" for a code under Model # and "04" under sales dept.

As for the trade-in, we use a  "U"  (for used) as a code for Model and "14" under sales dept, with no quantity entered. When we process the sale that way, the trade-in ends up adding the inventory to one, and then eventually when it is sold, the inventory goes back to zero.

But we have just noticed the following:

On the income statements, when the trade-ins is processed, it deducts the amount from the income side of the statement.

So our question is, what is the proper way to process a sale, with a trade-in?

Thanks.
