Windows 10 Upgrade Advice

Hello,

I've been hesitant on upgrading my computer from windows 7 to windows 10 but now it no longer an option and my computer keeps telling me i need to upgrade.

Has anyone experienced issues with this mandatory upgrade in correspondence with Sage 50? Printing/emailing/ect.....

Any advice or warnings are appreciated

  • I'm going to move this post to the Sage 50 CA Support Group as I think you will get more specific replies there.

    Thanks,
    Derek

You are already there, Derek moved your message. The green circle logo should say Sage 50 Canadian at the top of this page.

To help you better, it would help us to know the version of Sage 50 Canadian you are running and what the Windows message specifically says. Then if someone that is running that software is already upgraded, they can give you some more help.

So far, I have not heard of anyone being required to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft recommends it therefore it must be the best thing since sliced bread (not really my opinion), but I don't think the message indicates it is required. From what I understand, it is a free upgrade until Jul/16.

I did do some testing with my IT guy a while back (I'm still running Win7 and Win8.1 on my systems). I was able to install SA 2008, Sage 50 2013, 2015 and 2016 on Windows 10 and do data entry without problem (we only tried versions we have clients on). We did not have access to Outlook but we were able to get, I believe it was 2015 and 2016 to work with Windows Live mail as long as the contact name was entered into the address list. We tried backups and restores and they all seemed to work fine. We were not hooked up to a printer.

From what I understand, the Windows 10 upgrade has a hardware compatibility option to let you know if your hardware is supported by Windows 10. I don't know if it checks your printers or not. You might want to look at the drivers available from your manufacturer to see if your's is supported.
  • We ran two recent versions of Sage 50 (2015.3 and 2016.2.1) under Windows 10 with no problems.

The free Windows 10 upgrade from Microsoft is being withdrawn in June, that's the only urgency I'm aware of.
