Can an uploaded bank transaction be left unmatched and still be able to reconcile bank statement?

SUGGESTED

Can I still do the bank reconciliation with unmatched uploaded bank transactions? There is an amount in bank but i cannot match it as it is broken out in two journal entries in books. Match only allows exact amount as you can’t click it manually.

I'm surprised nobody answered this.  (I haven't been on the forums for a while but just ran into something so am browsing for 'my' answer. LOL  While I am sure you have figured it out, I will answer so that the next person looking may find the answer.  Yes, you can still do the reconciliation side, you just 'manually' check it off as reconciled in the bank reconciliation instead of matched/reconciled via the matching window.  When the next statement gets uploaded, your date range will be for your current month and those unmatched items should disappear off the grid.  I say 'should' because I am using this for the first time as well.  I have the same thing, a deposit was split in 2 in the general ledger but it had one transaction on the bank statement, so I just added up my broken out deposits and made sure they matched the bank deposit and manually checked off as reconciled.  Slight smile

    Hi,

Most likely nothing bad will happen if you leave the unmatched amount on the list.  But few of us would have gotten into doing book-keeping because we like messy things and loose ends.

So one way to clean it up could be to make a single account G/L entry to the bank account - add a transaction that matches the statement and the two journal entries on the books:

                    Dr              Cr

    Bank     1250

    Bank                         750     Customer A cheque

    Bank                         500     Customer B cheque

If this is a situation that you expect to see frequently, there could be some practices on making entries that have to tweak.

I hope that helps, please post back!
