I believe you will have to setup an inventory or service item to pull the item description for importing. However, I could be misinformed! Richard Ridings is more of a specialist in this area.

Agate is correct.  Using only the *.imp import format, the only way to have any description on an invoice is to enter it in the inventory and services module and use an item code on the import.

The limitation here is that you cannot have customised descriptions for each invoice.
