Why not send your accountant your Sage 50 backup copy? It would be quite a bit of work to export your payroll file.

No.  Sage 50 data isn't stored as a collection of individual data files for each module, it's stored as a sort of monolithic block that it isn't made to be split apart by module. 

For each company 'file' there is a small file ending with .SAI, and a matching folder that ends with .SAJ.  The .SAJ folder has a large number of files in it, but the data is basically stored in only one of those files 'ibdata1'.  The rest of the files are used to describe the data and help repair / recover it if something goes wrong.
