Sage 50 desktop one year licence available at retaillers

Has anyone had a client purchase this product? With or without payroll?

This is not the Sage Business Cloud accounting, but a downloadable desktop subscription that you run locally only.  No cloud sharing.  Chat support only.  No continual updates.  It is currently $150 cheaper than Sage50C.  Yes, you need to renew every year, but if you have payroll, that is required anyway.  I had a chat on the Sage product page and confirmed that other than cloud sharing, lack of continual updates and chat support only, it is the same as Sage 50C.

Another thing: if someone buys this version and then decides they want to go to Sage 50C, they do not get any credit for the "unused" portion of the subscription product purchased from a retailer. 

I have a client asking me about this, and it kind of scares me... especially with payroll... do they mean no updates for payroll changes either?

    Thanks for reaching out! For our purposes, a retail box purchase of Sage 50 Canadian Edition, has a particular serial number depending on the SKU. As of the 2022 version of the software, all serials are subscription only. Chat unlimited support is included. Cloud connected features like Remote Data Access and or addons like Payroll are generally separate (if payroll is included, it'll say so on the box).  

    If a customer wants to add cloud connected services or payroll to the retail subscription, they can contact customer service at 888-222-8985 for a referral or contact our sales team directly at 888-261-9610. The team will generate an alternate serial number to place on the account to enable access to the bought features. I don't have pricing details but if within the same version year, the customer should be able to pay the difference for the add-ons.
