Can't link inventory item to Inventory account

SOLVED

I'm using Sage50 CA 2012.

I'm entering my first inventory item.  When I try to link the accounts I have no problem picking the necessary accounts from the dropdown.  However when I try to add the item I get a message that the Inventory account (which I have selected for the Asset field) must be within the range 1000-1999.  My Inventory account is numbered 1050.

I checked that the account has the account class as Inventory, and I checked every link I can find to make sure I haven't linked this account anywhere else.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check in your suppliers if you accidentally chose the inventory account instead of the expense account for the default expense account (supplier - options tab - expense account).  If you chose the inventory account by accident for your supplier, it won't let you use it in the inventory module.  For example, you may have chosen 1520 raw materials instead of 5020 expense raw material for one of your supplier's default expense account. Even though the message says linked account, this doesn't show up as a linked account.
