Unable to fix negative COGS due to adjustments in inventory module ?

SUGGESTED

We are a factory using Sage 50 Quantum. We use average cost and quantities were not negative.

I managed to set the correct quantities and values of the inventory by using the inventory module, by first resetting the value to 0 in the module and then adding the correct quantities and values.

I believe this caused the COGS to become incorrect as it is now highly negative.

Any help on how i could proceed to have a correct COGS would be highly appreaciated.

Thank you,

Assuming your original quantity of Item A100 is 10 and the cost is $5 each, then you would have used the Inventory Adjustment module and entered (Columns are Item code, Quantity, Unit Price and Amount)

    A100   -10    -$5    -$50

and when you put the inventory back in stock you would use positive numbers

    A100   9    $4.5     $40.50

I always make sure the inventory summary report shows zero quantity and value before I post the increase it quantity to actual.

    Is this what you did?

If so, then the only thing I can think of is that there were post-dated transactions that you didn't account for when you did the adjustments.  Is this possible?

Did you have any outstanding Goods Received Notes?  I haven't traced how these affect the final inventory yet but they might affect the quantities and value if the purchase invoices are different than the receiving documents.

Are you using Locations and are you looking at the totals for one location or all locations?

    Hi Richard,

    Thank you for the reply.

    1. Yes this is what I did. I adjusted my totals back to 0 and confirmed with the stock report.

    2. I do not have any post dated transactions or oustandings goods notes.

    3. By looking into the COGS transaction report, I see that everytime I added inventory, the value is Credited in the account and that seems to be causing my problem. Is that flow normal ?

    thank you,

Typically negative quantities and dollars in the Inventory and Services Transaction Detail report will be because of Sales or Adjustments that decrease the On Hand quantities (also are items used up in an Assembly or Build).

If you are seeing entries with the Type ADJ in the report that are all negative, then they are reducing the quantities.

Are you able to show us a screenshot of the above report for one of the items that show the two adjustments and a few other rows above and below, if applicable?  Show all columns if you can.

By looking into the COGS transaction report,

I am afraid I don't know which report you are referring to here so I can't compare it.
