Getting started using inventory module.

SOLVED

Hi,

I'm new to Sage as a whole stepping in as the Warehouse/Operations manager. Our company has been using Sage/Simply Accounting for many years but have never used the inventory module. As being new to Sage I'm afraid of messing up any other data within the program while adjusting or adding items. I thought I read somewhere to set up all the items in a cloned "fake" company and then import everything after its complete. Is this possible? If not, how do i go about  this without messing up all the current items?

If this is posted in the wrong section, sorry, new to here too.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Daniel:

You can take your present company file and recreate it using a different name e,g. Play Co.. To do this is very simple. When you are in single user mode go to the file menu, select save as, then put in "Play Co.". From there you can experiment all you want with newly created inventory items and transactions and reports.

Yes, inventory items can be imported. Only basic information is imported i.e. item number, item name, asset GL number, cost of goods GL number, sales GL number and variance GL number, inventory type, retail price, preferred price, and unit of measure.
