Transferring Sage 50 2013 and data torun under Parallels on a Mac

Hello everyone,

First time posting on the site. I am trying to transfer Sage 50, 2013 edition, and the company data to run under Parallels on a Mac. I can transfer the program and it starts up but I cannot load the company data file a it says the data format is out of date.

I have tried the process of looking for the *saj and *sai folders for the company but no luck. Sage is currently running under Vista 7. We do not use the payroll system or any other add-ons, just the basic program and this is why we have not upgraded.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Rick

If you have the sample company installed, the software should open, or convert the sample, since the installed sample company version will never be newer than the installed program.

I don't recall whether the 2013 software had the menu under Help to check for updates, or if it was later. If so, and the update is still available, that should solve the problem.

If you're looking for installation and updates on an old workstation, the default folder is c:\Sage, and downloaded updates are filenames like SA_2013...UP..exe

If not, the .SAI file is just a text file, make a copy, rename with a .TXT extension, and open with Notepad. The version number should be encoded in the file, so that you know which software version you will need to open it.

Software version numbers can be seen in Help | About | Support Info.

I hope that helps, please post back.

p.s. editing the version number won't help an older version open newer data, the table structure is probably different, and the version is also encoded throughout the data folder.

If what Randy has suggested doesn't solve the problem, let us know exactly what the error message is, word for word. The only scenario I can think of that this would come up is if you installed Sage 50 2016 on the Mac, not Sage 50 2013.

Yes, if the data can't be converted to the new version, the new software is the problem, the 2016 release won't convert data from older versions unless they were installed on that workstation.

If the data has been "updated to a newer version", then the 2013 installation on the Mac is missing an update, perhaps from 2013.1 to 2013.3
