Best Location for First Back UP away from SAJ Folder

Hi,

In searching this site I have read a number of post on back ups but it seems that my query is not covered.

I don't have access to my old laptop and I am trying to remember the location of my regular backups.

I know that I should Not backup to the SAJ folder but is it o.k. to open a New Folder (that will hold all backups)

within the Accounting software itself?

Or does it matter i.e can I open a folder under "documents" out of the accounting software?

Your best place for a back up is away from the accounting software. in fact it should be separate from the computer on which you are running the software. If you store the program, data file and back up all on the same hard drive, different folders or not, what will happen when the hard drive crashes? Store your back ups on a USB key and take it off premises. Even a small 2 Gb key will hold a lot of back ups so have a couple of keys and rotate them. One off site, one in transit to receive the next back up and then take it off site and bring the first one back for the next back up. If your installation is automatically backed up every day to an off-site location then I would still take a back up of your accounting data and carry it with you at the end of the day always ready for tomorrow.
