Converting from Business Works to Sage50

SUGGESTED

I recently got a new client who currently uses BusinessWorks.  They want to convert to a different accounting software and were thinking of going with Sage 50.  Does anyone know how easy (or hard) it is to convert from BW to Sage50...?  Is it easier to convert to Sage 50 than QuickBooks?

    Hi Glenn77,

To the best our knowledge, there is no converter that can directly bring everything from BusinessWorks to Sage 50.  You will have to export the data from BusinessWorks, adjust it to the import format that is accepted by Sage 50.

For example, if you need to import Accounts, you have to follow the format in this article:

Exporting and importing accounts data using CSV format with Sage 50-Canadian Edition - KB10128

If you need to import transactions like sales and purhcase invoice, you have to create a .imp file and follow the format in the SDK documentation.

How to import purchase invoices, purchase quotes, sales invoices and sales orders? - KB10376

You will have to download SDK, install it, then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage 50 Accounting SDK\Manuals and look at dev-import.pdf for the format.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

One of our clients was using BusinessWorks, wanted to convert to Sage50.

There is no one-click solution to do the conversion.

We imported Chart of Accounts, Customers, Vendors.

Using SSI Swagman Import program bring over OPEN Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable Invoices.

    Also Opening Trial Balance.

A possible solution is to convert Sage BusinessWorks to Quickbooks and then use the importer to Import to Sage 50.

Is the client in Canada or the USA? For Sage 50 Canadian you would have to import all the lists and enter the opening balances.

There may have been a conversion for some version of BusinessWorks to the US "Peachtree" version of 'Sage 50'.
