Failure to restore from a backup

SUGGESTED

Installed Sage 50 on my new laptop OS 8.  Took a backup from the old PC (OS7) and Restored it on the laptop.

When I try to open the file I get a message:  A required data file is missing.  Check you data directory to be sure the files are there.

But it does not say what files.    Any ideas?

Try saving a backup to your desktop and than transfer the backup to a stick and install the restore that way

•The data file is being shared on two or more computers and the data file is on a different version/release than the software on the computer trying to open the file.

•Or the Sage 50 file is saved in a SAJ folder which confuses Sage 50 when restoring the backup

    Hi FOMH

What version of Sage 50 was on the old computer? What version of Sage 50 is on the new computer? Did you use the Sage 50 restore feature on the new computer to restore the file and was the restore successful and the file opened then?

Possible solution assuming Sage 50 is the the same on both computers. Make sure you check for updates for Sage 50 on the new computer. I suspect the release versions do not match. Test to see that the install of Sage 50 on the new computer was successful. Open the sample company. Try again with your backup from the old computer, copy it to the desktop on the new computer. Using Sage 50 restore feature restore the file.

I did the same thing and it worked OK. Try this. On the PC with OS7 on it bring up the company file and go "Save as" and save it under a file name(whatever you choose). Save it to a USB drive. Then plug the USB drive into you laptop, open sage and ask for the company that is on the USB drive. It should work> Letme know.
