You can find the version under File Properties (eg. Sage 50 2021.2 = 28.2.0.1 - remove the periods = 28201 or the initial release 28001)

Therefore 2022 would be 29001.

The last time I imported a chart of accounts was a couple of year ago and I still used 12001 at that time.  I haven't tested more current versions.

Edit:

You can also find out the version of the program by opening the *.sai file in Notepad.  This can be useful if you don't know which version of the program should be used on a company file.  First two letters of the version minus 7 gives the last two digits of the version year eg. 29-7=22  or 2022.

Hi Richard. We tried  (multiple times!) 29001, 29002 and 20001 (that worked for 2021) with no success. Each attempt  failed because the version number was incorrect. Any other suggestions? I have suggested to the client that she try 20002. Don't know her result yet.

I don't have 2021.1 installed yet but did you try 12001?

Have you tried having the client EXPORT a chart of accounts, just to see what header information Sage generates?
