Slow internet connection degrades Sage performance

We are currently working in a remote location and our internet speeds are atrocious.

Whenever I try to do a report or post anything, it takes minutes to do, so I have to wait until the transaction / report / etc is completed before I can do anything. Can I load the database locally, have it on one of the PC's, and then access it locally, so that the speeds will be better, and have it backed up to the cloud weekly? If this is not possible, is there anything I can do to get Sage to respond quickly?

  • Hi Dave,

Thanks for reaching out. Did you ever find an answer to your question? Sounds like you're accessing your Sage 50 CA company data file using Remote Data Access. You can have a local copy of your data. Do do so see KB 107176 on How to stop sharing a company file through Remote Data Access.

I've copied the contents from the KB below:

    Resolution

    Notes:

    • The data owner (person who uploaded the datafile*) is the only user that can stop sharing a Remote Data Access company
    • If the data can no longer be opened in sysadmin rights because the user left the company or there is a new owner of the comapny, contact Sage 50 support to reset the RDA security
    • If you get an error and the file cannot be downloaded or opened in Sage 50, you will not be able to stop sharing it.
      • The file will stay orphaned in the Cloud and will keep appearing in the list

    Steps:

    1. Open the company file that is currently being shared by Remote Data Access
      • if the data owner can't access the file, try downloading it - see KB 88971 How do I download a company file shared with Remote Data Access (formerly Sage Drive)?
    2. On the main menu, click on File, Remote Data Access, Stop Sharing
    3. Click Yes to confirm you wish to stop sharing the company file
      • This will remove the company from Remote Data Access
      • This will leave the unshared local copy of the company file on the machine where you stopped sharing
      • All other copies of the shared file will give a message that the file owner has stopped sharing the file and will not open
    4. Click OK when prompted that the company file is no longer shared

    Hope this helps!

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi
