Migrating to a new computer, Sage 50 Premium Canadian Edition, version 2018.1

Hello,

We need to move Sage 50 Premium 2018.1 from an old computer (Windows 7) to a new computer (Windows 10). We have an activation key but are uncertain as to how we do this.  Is there a step-by-step guide or document available? Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • First take a backup of your data using the backup in Sage 50. You indicated that you have the activation key, you will also need the serial number and account ID. You can get all of this information from within Sage 50 by going to Help/About Sage 50/Support Information. This produces a multi-page document so don't print unless you really need to, just copy the required information as suggested.

    Using the original CD or download for Sage 50 2018.1 install the program on your new computer. When you open the program on the new computer you want to restore from a backup and then follow the prompts.

    If you don't have the original CD you will have the files required on your old computer. Check this path: C: / Users / Public / Public Documents / Sage Software / Simply Accounting / Download  In this folder you will be looking for SA_20181CP1.exe. Copy this file to the new computer and install with a double click.

    If you don't have this file check for SA_20180CP1.exe and copy it to the new computer to install. You will then also have to get the file SA_20181CPUP1.exe from the same location and install it as well. This second file installation will update the program to 2018.1 after which you can open the program and restore your data.

    We do have the s/n & account ID as well.  I did find the SA_20181CP1 file (application file) in a different folder and will attempt to follow your instructions for the new computer.  I will post back with how it worked out!
