How to restore from backup for Sage 50 Pro 2018 on new computer?

SUGGESTED

So, my laptop got hacked, and I took it in to get cleaned out. It was taking forever for them to finish, so I bought a desktop in the meantime. I can't seem to be able to restore from backup on the new desktop. My laptop has Sage 50 Pro 2018 on it. I'm able to access all my data on my laptop, but when I try to restore from backup via my USB stick form the laptop to the desktop, it comes up with a message saying "the file cannot be restored on the selected directory because you do not have write permissions". I found a download on this site for Sage 50 Pro 2018 "Education Edition", it sounded like it might work, but I can't seem to make it happen... I'm pulling what's left of my hair out here, and when I called Sage, they were less than helpful.

    Hi Nikolas:

In order to restore from a backup on a USB stick, I would suggest copying the backup file first to your hard drive on your computer. After the file has been copied open up your Sage 2018 and try the restore menu item selecting the backup file from your hard drive.

    Hope this helps!

I copied the entire Simply accounting folder from my laptop onto the USB stick, then from the USB stick to a new folder on my desktop. Still gives me the same message when I try to restore from backup. When I try to open the company folder, it says that my software is not compatible with the file format for my company, and that I need to upgrade to the latest version. Fine, so when I try that, it wants a subscription fee, which I believe when I bought the software, it was a 1-time fee, no monthly or yearly subscription.

    Nikolas:

When you copied the entire Simply Accounting folder, what did you actually copy to the USB stick? Only a backup file can be restored using the restore menu item in Sage 50. If you copied the actual data which includes a file of your company name.sai and a company folder.saj then to open your data just double-click the .sai file to open your data. On the other hand if your data does not open you may have a version say 2018.0 installed and you may need 2018.4. If you bought Sage 50 2018 with Payroll then yes it is a subscription product.

    Hope this helps!

The version on my laptop appears to be Sage 50 Pro 2018.1. Would you or anyone else here be able to direct me to a download link for that specific version? I've searched and can't seem to find one... Thank so much for all you help thus far!
