Install 2018 - Network , Peer to Peer - Set up?

In the past we did a general /  Typical set up.  In the past we have had problems ie Network.  In particular with Connection Manager on Desktop 2.

Reading the install guide I noticed information relating to Network server, Peer to peer, etc.

Our situaiton.  Bought Multi user package 2018         We have 2 users working on 2 separate desktops.

Desktop 1:  Sysadmin set up on Main computer on C drive (with network access).

Desktop 2:  Computer 1 - in the past would access the Sage data from network ( C drive) of Desktop 1.

The path used was c/myfiles/documents/simplyaccounting/data/sageinstall.   Also read somewhere the folders should not be in My Documents / Documents?  Could this have also caused us problems?   What is recommend as a path for the two desktops using sage via a shared network?

Do we do a Full install on each desktop and a server install on the server?? which is Desktop 1???  Confused with server install

Peer to Peer ??

It is the weekend and no chat available.  Want to do this correctly this time as opposed to the way it was always set up..... Our Tech person does not touch anything relating to Sage so we always run into a dead wall when we have a problem with Sage.

Appreciate your help.   Long time customer

A full install on both computers should be all that is necessary. The server install is required if there is a separate server. Be sure the data is stored on a Path that is fully accessible to the second computer. Data can be on the C; drive just not in the "Program" path. The path you showed should work. If you are using any customized forms they should be stored in a separate file. I use a file called Customized Forms which is not stored with the program so there is no chance of the file being overwritten or deleted when there is an update to the Sage 50 Program.

Sage 50 runs multi-user in client-server mode ALWAYS.  Desktop 1 is accessing the data stored on Desktop 1 as if it was on a network.  The client software doesn't know or care that the TCP/IP connection 'loops back' to where it started.

If you can open the file on Desktop 1 in multi-user mode, the Connection Manager, database, company file, and all the other bits are set up and working.  Any problem connecting from Desktop 2 is a firewall and/or network problem.

If you can open the Desktop 1 folder location from Desktop 2, copy a file and paste it on the desktop, then copy it back, the file and network security is correct.

It's often a firewall issue, usually on the workstation where the data is stored.  Sage 50 can only configure a Microsoft firewall.

While a folder under c:\myfiles can be made to work, Microsoft's default workstation folder for sharing any files to other user accounts and/or other workstations is under 'C:\Users\Public'.

The default security and firewall settings for the public folder are more open and may be less trouble.
