Backup Space Detection

Would it be possible in future releases for the backup mechanism to detect the available space on the chosen drive and alert users when they attempt to backup. Currently, the software contains a loop that continually asks the user "Do you want to overwrite the current backup" whether you choose Yes or No this popup continues and does not allow you to do anything else until you discover the drive-space selected for the backup is actually full.

Thank you

Best way to see that feature in future versions of Sage go to Help-Contact Us-Give Us Your Feedback. That goes to the Dev team for future updates.

I'd rather the backup module try even if it thinks the drive is too full. For instance, our 1.4 GB / 1,479,941,849 byte company data compresses almost exactly 5:1, to 296,295,546 bytes, for instance, but the 5:1 is an unknown until it's finished.

I would not want the software to assume a conserfative 2:1 and prevent me doing a backup to an old 512 MB USB stick.

Maybe Sage could change the software to compress the file to a temporary location (like the DBUTIL data check does), then copy it to the backup 'destination'.

But in the meantime, we rename the backup file every time, to something meaningful like:
Universal Crustaceans 2015-12-15 to J15327 Rec to 2015-12-01

We don't have to pick through a hundred backups when restoring, and never see the 'overwrite?' warning.

I've found the best procedure to be either:
    - backing up to a physically separate disk with a unique name, or
    - Backup to 'My Documents', then use Windows Explorer to move the backup to a USB or external hard drive.
