Will Microsoft's free upgrade to Windows 10 affect Sage 50?

SOLVED

I've got this question posted on a Microsoft forum, but so far I am not having any luck with getting a clear response.

With the impending Windows 10 upgrade that Microsoft is strongly "encouraging," I have been trying to find out if Windows 10 will negatively impact the software and applications one already has on a PC. My PC currently has Windows 7 installed.

The Get Windows 10 app has a option to check your PC to see if there are any conflicts, however, I am not reassured by the results of that check... presently, it is telling me my only conflict is with Norton Internet Security.  I'd rather get reassurance from companies, like Sage, on how Windows 10 will be impacting its software.

I have posted a similar question on the Adobe user forums for the exact same reason.

Is Sage able to reassure its customers that the Windows 10 upgrade will be painless, whether upgrading from Windows 7 or 8? Or at least what to expect?

Hello, Sage 2015 has not been tested with Windows 10 so we cannot guarantee that there will be no conflicts there.  It should work normally (especially given the research you did), and future versions of Sage 50 will be tested with Windows 10, but there is the possibility of software issues.  If this is in an office environment with multiple PC's I would advise trying one workstation with windows 10 and Sage 50 before you upgrade all of your PC's, and of course do a backup of company files before this process is started.

Erik79: okay, thanks for that definitive confirmation. I'm starting to get a similar response on Adobe's community forums, as well. At this rate, I have a feeling I won't be an 'early adopter' and upgrade to Windows 10 anytime soon.

From what I can tell, mainstream support for Windows 7 ceased back in January 2015, however, Microsoft will continue to support Windows 7 as far as fixing any security issues it may have, until January 2020... so I'll get a few more years outta Windows 7 then, I guess!

Well, for anyone who is curious re Windows 10 affecting their software, here is a reply I got from a Staff member over at Adobe's user forums,

    "On behalf of Adobe ...

You can reasonably assume that all current shipping versions of Adobe software will either directly work with Windows 10 (not necessarily any beta test versions of Windows 10) or will receive an update if any glitches are found. Adobe is currently testing its current version applications with developer builds of Windows 10. Interestingly enough, most of the issues we have tended to find with new OS versions have had to do with installers, file paths, and esoteric system services as opposed to the application software itself post-installation. Also, in the case of Acrobat, there have been issues with browser plug-ins and the AdobePDF PostScript printer driver plug-in DLL. Generally speaking, Microsoft maintains application compatibility from one Windows version to the next compared to Apple which purposely breaks such compatibility.

On the other hand, if you have any version of Acrobat earlier than Acrobat DC or InDesign / Illustrator / Photoshop version earlier than the “Creative Cloud” subscription versions, if there are any compatibility issues, you should assume that there will be no OS-compatibility updates for said older versions.

All that having been said, a prudent application software user, especially one relying on software to get one's work done, would wait a little before upgrading the OS to Windows 10, monitor the experiences of other users, and possibly wait for any application updates if there are problems, even if all your Adobe applications are at the latest version!!!"

So in the case of Sage 50, I'm gonna wait awhile before upgrading to Windows 10 and see what the fallout is first.

    SUGGESTED
I've upgraded to Windows 10 and found two problems: (1) The Sage 50 Connection Manager does not start when Windows starts, and Sage 50 will not start until that service is running. It needs to be manually started on reboot, despite everything I've found and tried on Google. (2) The program has fuzzier font; the resolution has gone downhill. :(
