Not updating/ Can't open Company File

We are running Sage 50 Pro Accounting 2014.

We have all the files necessary (SAI and SAJ), it has been narrowed down to when we open the SAI for the company file it says it needs to upgrade to open the company file.

We tired to open a backup file (which our last backup isnt listened anywhere on the computer)

Is there a solution to the upgrading problem? It's an error at the very end and mentions user preferences and to restore a backup, which we cannot.

Do we need to upgrade the software?

Not sure what you mean by "the upgrading problem".

The first time you open the company file with the updated software, it has to convert the data from the previous version, to the currently installed one.

If only one of the workstations has been updated, you can't open the file from others that haven't been updated.

If you are stuck in a catch-22 where you can't open the Sage 50 software program to download the update, because you're trying to open the company file, try opening the sample company instead.
