SAI Backups

SOLVED

Last bookkeeper sent a backup file with SAI extension on the end.  Restore doesn't recognize or see the file.  Can I somehow get the data from this file?

Thank you Richard.  I understand what you are saying.  I was going to ask for a .CAB backup file but noticed that SAGE  doesn't allow these files to be sent by email.  So I guess I will have to ask her to send the .SAJ file as well?  Is that something that can be emailed?  Together I am sure that I should be able to get the data. Secondly if she sends the SAJ file should the SAI file be sent again so they were saved at the same time?

    Thank you for your help!

SAGE  doesn't allow these files to be sent by email

Sage does not control my email.  No one at the company has any access to my email.  I can send a *.cab file if I want and if it is below the file transfer limits on the sender and receiver managed by their email providers and spam software in between.

Don't send a *.saj file by email.  There are over 400 files in there and any one can go wrong at any point and get corrupted between the sender and receiver.  The *.saj folder is also not compressed, a *.cab file is.  A 50 MB *.saj folder can sometimes be sent as a *.cab file with a size less than 20 MB (if email limits are not surpassed).  If a *.cab file can be restored, then it likely is not corrupted and you only have to worry about one file.

Secondly if she sends the SAJ file should the SAI file be sent again so they were saved at the same time?

Technically it is not necessary but it's always a good idea.... wait no I just said emailing the live file is not a good idea.  Never mind, don't send the (*.sai and *.saj by email, send the *.cab - it always includes both so you will never lose one - however it does not include the custom forms templates if you need them).

I found my error.  I again attempted to attach the CAB file and was successful this time.  Not sure why it didn't work the first time.  Your answers have been detailed and straight forward enough for me to understand the working of these three files.  Thanks again.
