Sage 50 Quantum vs Sage 50 Premium Accounting

Hello,

The company I work for are currently considering changing from Sage 50c Premium Accounting to Sage 50 Quantum.  Can anyone tell me the Pro's and Con's?  Is the Quantum version worth switching to?  We are also possibly considering Sage 100 also.  Not sure what would suit our company better.

I would value any information anyone would like to share.

Thanks,

Sally N.

What limitations are you having with Premium that you think Quantum or Sage 100 will solve?

If you are familiar with Quantum and Sage 100 maybe you can tell me what the difference is or the advantages to switching.

I have one client using Sage 100 but I only work with them on their Sage 50 companies, sorry.  I can't help with the differences between them.

Quantum/Premium Differences (Probably not completely comprehensive but these are the major differences)

    1. Allows for vendor specific inventory and costs
    2. 1000 Departments - Premium 100
    3. 1000 Price List - Premium 100
    4. 100 Shipping addresses per customer - Premium 10
    5. Quantum has Serial number capabilities - Premium does not
    6. Inventory Reporting menu in first image below Quantum on left - Premium on right
    7. Project Reporting menu in second image below Quantum on left - Premium on right
    8. Project budgeting down to G/L level in both - Quantum allows budgets 4 years to the future

Neither version will help well with scheduling, though some people use the Sales Order reporting to help determine when things are supposed to go out.  There is little difference other than reporting in Inventory Builds or item assemblies.  People use the recurring transactions of the Assembly module to help with common things that require some changes in components or quantities but that can be done in either version.

From a manufacturing perspective, the program handles simple concepts very well but when you are a busy company, I've heard many take the management out of the program and only deal with the accounting in the program.  There have been some add-on programs that have been available over the years but I have never used any myself.  One that comes to mind is MISys that currently says it is compatible with Sage 50 Canadian.  I don't have any experience with it.  I've used Fishbowl Inventory but never with Sage 50 and there is no direct integration with it.  But there is some reporting to help with the accounting entries.  However, the way they are moving development, you almost have to be a website developer to customise the reporting.

You can use the Timeslips module and allocate to projects but until they are posted as payroll cheques, you will not see the information as part of the regular project reporting from the menus indicated in the second image below.

    Hope this helps
