Using Sage 50 with a VPN

SUGGESTED
Posted By FormerMember

I am using Sage 50 2018  Canadian Edition on a single computer with the database saved on the same computer.

My problem happens when I am connected to the internet through a VPN for my wireless internet.

When I am connected through the VPN to the internet I cannot open Sage 50 - even the sample data. I can start the program normally and sign in normally with password etc. and then the screen flashes a few times as if it is going to open the program and nothing ever opens. Connection Manager is running and connected.

If I disconnect from the VPN I can open the program normally like it should open. I have Sage installed on 2 computers both with the data saved on the same computer and both have the same problems.

I can connect normally by disabling the VPN but it would be nice to not have to disable the VPN if anyone knows how to get around this problem.

I have the exact same problem using Sage50 with Avast SecuLine VPN.

Sage50 is not supported over a VPN connection. Refer to KB "Can Sage 50 run on a virtual private network? (48753). While it may work marginally, you will risk corrupting your company data by doing so.

Ray M and JRay notes show that they are trying to use the Sage 50 on one computer, not via VPN!

I encountered a similar problem when using VPN, but with different outcomes on different VPNs. If I try to open the company file (which is on my C: drive using my Sage 50 CA edition that is also on my C: drive (in programs) I will not be able to open it if I have the Cyberghost VPN active on my computer. Contrary to this, the Bitdefender VPN has no impact on my sage file. Most probably something in the settings or the way they are designed, the Cyberghost will block the database connection module to function as if it is stopped.
