Sage Drive Help

I have a few questions about Sage Drive.  I'm the file owner, so the data files are located on my computer and I'm wanting to share with another user.  So far all of the issues I've encountered have only been when I've used a shared file on my own computer.  I haven't taken the leap of faith yet to have another user access the files because I've had some problems with Sage Drive.

1) I've noticed that when I go to make a back-up of a Sage 50 data file that I've shared in Sage Drive, the back-up process takes an extremely long time (longer than for a file that is not shared).  Is this normal for shared data files?

2) After posting new transactions in a shared data file, is it necessary to leave the file open for a period of time in order for the syncing to be finished?  In other words, is it a problem to close a shared data file right after posting new transactions?

3) I've had the following situation occur multiple times with shared files, here's the step-by-step rundown of what's been happening:

  • I opened the shared file and posted new transactions
  • I ran a back-up, which took an unusually long amount of time
  • I closed the shared file
  • Later, I trie to open the shared file again and I got a message that told me that there was an error and I can no longer open the data file
  • I then had to restore from the last back-up in order to be able to use the company file again
  • The restored file was not shared on Sage Drive, so I had to share that restored file, creating an additional shared file in Sage Drive
  • Since I was not able to get the original shared file open again, I now have a redundant shared file showing in the Sage Drive Management Centre that I cannot open and I cannot remove from the management centre

Is there something I'm doing wrong?  Unfortunately I didn't make note of the exact language in the error message that I got.  Since then, I've been using a workaround which involves opening the shared data file, un-sharing, then posting new transactions, then making a back-up, then sharing again.  However, this won't work when I start having a second user accessing these files.  The second user won't be able to un-share and re-share.

I appreciate any feedback that might be available out there because at this point I'm really hesitant to use Sage Drive.

    1. Could be just it  sync/upload before start backup process, have you try time it when you backup which out entering data vs un-share time?

    2. You do not have to leave the file open for it to sync, when you close the file it will sync right away before it closed it.

    3. Once you cant open the local data, can you download it from Sage drive?  if you cant download and open original file, I would assume the file is damaged.  I don't see anything you do is wrong, could be just environmental issue or unstable internet that might corrupt your file.
