How to show tax breakdown for each line on an invoice.

Posted By FormerMember

I can get a tax summary to print.  I created the appropriate columns for the 3 taxes I need to show, but how do I get them to print on my invoice?

I can enter the breakdown for each line when I choose "OT" Other Tax, with the Control Y function, but it dioesn't print.  How can I fix this?

I am little confused.  The program does not allow you to create columns that do not actually exist in the database.  There is a Tax Amount column that can be added to the custom templates but I believe that shows the total tax for the line not the individual tax assuming something like GST and PST are both on the same amount.

How did you create new columns?

There is generally no need to do this manually if you use the tax codes.  The tax codes do the calculations for you if you set it up appropriately.  It doesn't solve the printing problem, but it does allow you to do data entry easier.

There is no way I know to show three tax columns on screen. To print them individually you need to go to custom reporting.  As of the fall of this year, I`ve been doing custom reporting with Crystal Reports and Simply/Sage 50 for 20 years and I can't remember one client asking for the individual amounts of taxes to show on a line of an invoice.  I've added them to customer statements but never to an invoice.

However, I believe the Simply programmers did allow for that in their programming of the csv files, if you move to a designer outside of Sage like Crystal Reports.  From the layout of the csv file it does look like it is intended to be able to be added to an invoice line and it does show if the tax is included or not.  So at this point, if you need the individual amounts showing on each line, I think custom reporting is the only way you can do it.

If you are using Sage 50 2014.2 or higher, the Crystal Engine has been removed from the program and therefore you cannot print them directly from Sage 50.  You would have to use a viewer outside the Sage 50 program to do the work for you (like the Crystal Reports designer program itself or my BizMan Reports 2.0 program).  If you are using a version 2014.2 or earlier, including Simply Accounting versions, then a template can be created and you can print directly from inside the program.

    Hope this helps
