When logged into Sage 50 in single-user mode and you select Maintenance, Check Data integrity, if it indicates Data Ok or the A/R balance sheet account (left side) matches the total of all outstanding sales invoices (right side), then NO, do not unlink the account and post an entry.

This is when you ask why do you need to adjust the amount owing by customers without identifying a customer.  Logic dictates that normally can't happen so why are you asked to do this kind of entry.  Likely you are already asking yourself this or something similar becauase you came here to ask.

Normally these entries are year end adjusting entries and are setup to identify some "Other Receivable".  If this is the case and it is not customer-based then it is likely you should use an Other Receivables asset account instead (eg. CEWS accrual for year end).

However, I would ask the source of the journal entry about the reason for it and then determine how to handle it after that.
