Windows 11 and Windows 365, will these work for Sage 50 CA?

2 minute read time.

PC users are getting more options! Below are some details on recent and upcoming releases from Microsoft and what users of Sage 50 CA versions 2021 and upcoming 2022 (more details still to come) can expect.

Windows 11: What can Sage 50 CA users expect?

What we know so far is that Microsoft plans to release Windows 11 to the general public on October 5, 2021.  Windows 11 is the successor to Windows 10, released in 2015 and will be available as a free upgrade to compatible Windows 10 devices through Windows Update.

Windows 11  will not officially be supported as per the system requirements (see KB 107221) Sage 50 CA versions 2021 and 2022.0 . The system requirements for running Windows 11 on most systems will be quite high, meaning most users will not be able to install it on their PCs. My colleague @Dmaster looked into the stipulations and noted that TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and a m.2 slot for system boot drive will be required or until Microsoft changes their system requirements. Here's their latest update.

Windows 11 will optimize your workflow among peripheral devices. It's snappy and responsive and packed with performance enhancements.

Windows 365: What is it? Why is it exciting? What can Sage 50 CA users expect?

Our support teams have met recently to discuss Windows 365 which is a cloud PC that you stream, customize and access from anywhere with an internet connection. You can access this cloud PC from any of your devices (an old Android phone, Chromebook or Mac). Very exciting!

At the present time, Sage 50 will work as long as it's run on Windows 10. Once Windows 11 is made available on the Windows 365 platform, Sage 50 CA versions 2021 and 2022.0 will not officially be supported as per the system requirements (see KB 107221).

We expect networking capabilities to work as long as the Microsoft subscription type allows peer to peer connectivity. You must verify this with Microsoft. Note that trials of Windows 365 have been paused due to high demand.

Use of Windows 365 will allow you to easily provision cloud PCs for testing, validation and deployment which can run on any hardware with a modern browser.

  • Is Sage 50 CA Version 2020 compatible with Windows 11?

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for reaching out. Although compatibility is not yet optimized, the main issue being reported is related to the product's launch icons. KB 113544 advises:

    Summary

    • Icons are missing in the Sage 50 Form Designer to add text, data fields and images
    • Icons are missing in a sales invoice
    • When pinning Sage 50 to the taskbar, the icon image disappears and looks blank

    Resolution

    • Under investigation for a future fix
    • Windows 11 does not support any versions of Sage 50 at the moment
      • Sage 50 CA 2022 System Requirements
    • Revert back to Windows 10 or use the blank icon images as their functions are not disabled in normal use with Windows 11

We do have reports of users running the software on Windows 11.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

  • I keep being disappointed with Sage. First, your desktop software has issues with scaling, and now one can't buy a new computer?

  • Hi Herbert, apologies for the delayed response. Unfortunately, Sage 50 CA version 2022 is not yet compatible and or supported to run on Windows 11 because it was finalized for release before Windows 11 was made available. You'd have to install it on a Windows 10 environment (see the system requirements (see KB 107221). It may not be until the Sage 50 CA version 2023 release that we see compatibility with Windows 11.

  • Hi I was wondering if you could help please. I am using Windows 11 for my new laptop. installed a Sage 50 2019 Student edition. When creating a database it always appear "The program detected problems while creating your database. Wait a few moments, and then try to create again." I already did some solution found within the Sage City like reinstalling it,repairing/updating .net framework, changing region/location, turned off anivirus/firewall,run as administrator, but still to no avail. Appreciate the response. Thank you.
