What's new in Sage 50 CA - Canadian Edition - version 2020.0?

5 minute read time.

Get ready! The official launch of Sage 50 CA version 2020.0 is approaching. Quantum edition users can expect to see a download notification as of the 8th. The staggered rollout means that all Premium edition users can expect to be notified by the 17th at the latest; and Pro users by the 29th at the latest.

Server loads and other factors may affect when you receive a message. However, also note that an in-product message will alert you of the download availability, as long as, you have the settings turned on. To check your settings, please go to your Help menu > About Sage 50… > Support Info… > Modify Product Update Settings > Check the boxes for automatically download (it's optional to automatically install*).

If you did not receive a download in product notification, you can visit the Sage Knowledgebase here. Once there, simply search for 2020 download and select your product line.

NOTE: If searching for downloads for software product lines other than Sage 50, you will need to log into the Sage KB with a logon tied to a North American Account ID with an active Sage Business Care service plan or subscription.

Also note, that Sage 50 2020.0 does NOT include any new tax updates.

So,

What's new in 2020?

This version has improvements in:

Payroll Improvements

When configuring an employee, you can now select 27 or 53 pay periods. Something that is very convenient to ensuring accuracy in payroll calculations during years that  have 27 or 53 pay periods. This option is available in the Employee Record window or in the Setup guide available under the setup menu.

The pay period starting date has also been added to pay checks and direct deposit forms.

Changes to EFT

Do you use EFT for Direct Deposit? Good news, as of October 1st, 2019, EFT tier 1 (10 employees*) will be free for Cloud Support and Payroll customers that are either:

  • New customers
  • Migrating product lines
  • Up-planning

User Experience Improvements

Viewing of completed or pending orders

If you use Sage 50 CA Premium Edition, you can now look up sales and purchase orders that have been completed. Previously, this feature was only available in the Quantum Edition. This allows for a more streamlined view of completed orders.

Enhancements for copying existing transactions

In the Sales and Purchases journals, we have added an option to copy and create a new transaction. This is particularly useful if you'd like to reorder items that have been ordered in the past from a vendor; or if you've previously billed a customer for a service they've purchased before. Prior to this release this feature was only available in the Quantum edition of Sage 50 CA.

This feature is now available with the Premium Edition and higher and requires an active service plan.

Post Transactions into a new calendar year

You can now post transactions in the next calendar year without having to start a new calendar year first. This option is only available if the transactions remain in the current fiscal year. It's useful for the creation of postdated cheques. Talk to your accountant before you modify this.

New category filter when updating price lists

If you use categories for your items and services, we've added a category filter in the Update Price Lists window (go to the Maintenance menu  for access). This makes it easier to update your prices for specific categories of items or services.

Company logo saved to database

If you have a company logo that is used on Sage Forms such as invoices or quotes, your logo will now be added to the company database. One less thing to worry about when moving your database to a new computer! You'll no longer have to reupload the image to a database stored in a new location.

Add your company logo to sales quotes and orders

Make a visual impact by adding your logo onto sales quotes or orders on the fly when you create them. When you go to print, you'll receive this message.

Enhancement to Invoice Payments

Invoice Payments allow you to send invoices to your customers by email and include a Pay Now button. With this release, if a customer pays an invoice without using the Pay Now button (say they mail a cheque*), Sage 50 CA will update the link in the email and invoice sent to your customer to show that the invoice has already been paid. This saves you time from having to refund extra payments or communicating back and forth about extra payments.

Enhancements for Reports

Improve Conciseness & readability of reports

Adjustments are now automatically hidden in the following reports:

  • Customer Sales Detail
  • Vendor Purchases Detail
  • Inventory & Services Transaction Detail
  • Inventory & Services Sales Detail

You have the option of clicking on "Show Corrections" at any time to see the adjustments in a report.
